Laser Hair Removal works by destroying the root of the hair follicle. Flashes of lights are absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. Energy from the laser heats up and damages the hair follicle, successfully stunting the cells that stimulate regrowth. If regrowth happens, the hair comes back thinner and lighter in color.
Pigments in the follicles absorb the light and heat up to the point of singe-ing which then destroys the hair and surrounding root disabling it from future growth.
Yes, but please wait a few days or until it’s no longer sensitive to the touch. Just remember not to wax, thread, or tweeze. Wait 4-5 days to exfoliate and watch for hair shedding as after each session the hair will shed from the damaged follicles.
Hair grows in different cycles and goes through three stages of growth. Laser can only target hair follicles in the active stage (anagen phase). Each hair in your body can be at different phases in this cycle at any given time. Therefore it takes multiple sessions to capture every hair in their growth cycle.
Laser hair removal lasers are designed to target dark pigment in the hair follicle. After shaving, the laser is able to go straight to the root of the hair. This allows the treatment to be the most effective and comfortable for the client.
Without shaving, the laser will target the hair that is growing outside the skin. This will be much less effective in lessening the hair growth and will feel very uncomfortable from the hair essentially burning the skin.
After you laser hair removal treatment, it is recommended to stay out of the sun because of your skin’s increased vulnerability to UV rays. The problem is the sun makes skin more sensitive to heat, and using a laser on heat sensitive skin can cause hyper-pigmentation, burns and even scarring. With the risk of increased sun damage, also comes the complication of skin healing. When the treated skin is exposed to UV rays, it can prevent it from healing properly.
Laser hair removal is not exactly permanent but it is as permanent as permanent gets. Our body will continue to repair the damaged hair follicles and future hormonal changes may stimulate new hair growth, therefore, it’s important to follow up after the full initial round of laser treatments to maintain the optimum result. Think of it like weeds in your yard.
The area to be treated must be CLEAN SHAVED on the day or day before your appointment.
If you have a history of Herpes Simplex Virus or cold sores, you must premeditate one day prior to treatment to prevent further outbreaks.
And remember ***absolutely NO shaving, waxing, or tweezing in between sessions
